Starting in the 1950s, many Tibetans were forced to flee into Nepal. There are still 3 refugee settlements in Pokhara. These ones and their children and grandchildren are still considers refugees, as they do not have Nepali citizenship.
For income, they rely on tourists to sell their wares too: Buddhist religious items, jewelry, woven items, and rugs.
In the settlement we visited they have 6 weavers. Some are Nepali and some are Tibetan.
This woman was actually Nepali. The warp is made of cotton, and the weft is wool. She works so fast it is hard to follow what she is doing. Stay tuned for a video.
