What can I expect from an honest carpet cleaner?
First of all, beware of a cleaner that offers a super cheap deal. Like “5 rooms for $95!” Because there is no way that a real carpet cleaner can afford to do that and stay in business. Why?
A true cleaner who has a truck-mounted steam cleaning system has a significant financial expense. You know his van sitting outside your house? That can be around the price of a Lexus GS or a Tesla Model S. Yeah. Pricy. And don’t get me started on how much gas that cleaning van needs. Now if you own a Lexus or a Tesla, and your job had you drive 30 minutes to somebody’s house, do intense physical work for 1.5 hours, would you value your monetary worth including expenses at $95? If you did, you probably would not be owning your Tesla for much longer.
So how these companies go from being in-the-red to turning a profit is through high-pressure sales and up-selling. A job that was sold on the phone to you for $95 turns into $250 or more by the time they leave. That’s because they need to make the $250 to stay profitable. Makes sense, but that’s not fair to you as the consumer. It’s misleading.
An honest carpet cleaner will respect your home, your possessions, and your privacy. They will clean your carpets with the proper products and procedures. And they take the time to do the job right. It is always recommended to check out a company’s online reviews. Google allows companies to respond to reviews, so even if a company were to get a negative review, they can respond to make things right. Yelp is also helpful, but Yelp hides most of a company’s positive reviews. For example, Yelp only shows 6 of ours, and they have 20 as “unrecommended.” (They blame this on some “algorithm”).
