We we have two standard test before we begin cleaning upholstery. First we check fiber type and then the second test is to determine if the stuffing inside the upholstered item has a certain type of fire retardant applied. This newer fire retardant if applied to your upholstery can peremntly change the color of your upholstery fabric if cleaned. Sadly even if never cleaned, in time, it can start to add a pink or red tone to your fabric. It’s a real problem and seems to be applied on the more expensive furniture.
Today we ran into a case of this and had to explain to our client why we couldn’t clean her sofa. We also had her watch this video that explains the problem by two industry experts.
After cleaning the rest of the upholstery that passed our inspection, our client sent this email to us!
“the two gentlemen who were here today were extremely professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We had some issues with fire retardant on our couch and our high pile rug being difficult to clean. They offered recommendations on how to proceed in the future and I couldn’t be more grateful on their honesty and professionalism. I just wanted to pass along what excellent service I received and let you know you have a customer for life.”
